David Irving

David Irving once said, "I don't see any reason to be tasteful about Auschwitz. It's baloney. It's a legend. Once we admit the fact that it was a brutal slave labor camp and large numbers of people die, as large numbers of innocent people died elsewhere in the war, why believe the rest of the baloney?' Mr. Irving has been able to establish himself as a reputable and controversial chronicler of World War II. He was able to get his name out into the media because he was involved with high-profile lawsuits. David Irving’s main goal in life is to deny the Holocaust. According to a website written in 2005 titled “Extremism in America”, Mr. Irving continued to raise money and lead an annual “Real History Conferences.”
I remember my main school project during 6th grade was to create a 10 minute report on a certain event in history that changed people’s lives. I chose the Holocaust, because at the time, I could not think of any other event that I have heard more about than this. Also, I remember finding in my research that the total death count was around 1.3 billion people. Despite my whole semester of doing research on the Holocaust, I never came across anybody who denied the Holocaust until now. David Irving’s work as a Holocaust denier is a very unique job.
David Irving does not only express ideas that he formulates in his head, rather he also illegally investigates certain details concerning the Holocaust. For example, Irving the Denier collaborated with a man named Fred A. Leuchter Jr., who is a “self-described engineer from Massachusetts who specialized in designing execution apparatus, to investigate the use of gas chambers. “In his findings, Leuchter claimed that samples he illegally chipped off the walls of the gas chamber at Auschwitz did not contain residue of cyanide gas recorded as having been used there. David Irving was able to put together this sort of information in order to carry out his campaign to deny the Holocaust. Mr. Irving “remained committed to The Leuchter Report. Irving was eventually sent to court because justice argued that it was “incontrovertible that Irving qualifies as a Holocaust denier.” He remains as one of the most popular Holocaust deniers in history.
